Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison--even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her.

As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

Scarlet was descending toward the alley behind the Rieux Tavern when her portscreen chimed from the passenger seat, followed by an automated voice: “Comm received for Mademoiselle Scarlet Benoit from the Toulouse Law Enforcement Department of Missing Persons.”

Oh My God! First Cinderella and now we have RED RIDING HOOD! With wolve, grandmother, and red hood, Marissa Meyer keep impressing me with her story. She made this second book based on Red Riding Hood with of course continuing the main story itself. Two different story combined into one. It was so amazing. Scarlet with her missing grand-mere and Cinder who just became a wanted criminal cross path in Paris, France.

Let's begin with Scarlet's story.

Scarlet was furious, the detective of missing persons departement decided to close her gradmother's missing case and conclude that her grandmother was running away or commited suicide. Scarlet was perfectly sure that her grandmere was kidnapped, she knew what kind of person her grandmere was, and she wasn't the type to just leave her ID chip behind and runaway. But with no help, she didn't know where to begin searching. Until her father came to the farm and started tearing trough her grandmere's things. He looked lost and broken and had burned scars on his hands. And he kept rambling about something that her grandmere hid but refused to tell to a cruel person who tortured her father.

“They asked so many questions and I didn’t know. I didn’t know what they wanted. I tried to answer them, but I didn’t know…”

Convinced that her grandmere was indeed kidnapped, Scarlet determinded to find her, with the help of Wolf. A street fighter who once had a connection with the gang who took her grandmere away. They were heading to Paris, where the HQ of Wolf's previous gang located. But with the long journey, Scarlet began developing another feeling toward wolf and Wolf toward her. Or so she thought.

Meanwhile, in an underground jail of New Beijing, Cinder started her jailbreak plan.

The captivity of Carswell Thorne had gotten off to a rocky start, what with the catastrophic soap rebellion and all.

In her escape, she met Thorne, who for some silly way, ended up in a jail. Well, the reason he was in a jail wasn't silly but the reason that he was finally catched that's silly.

“I started a riot on the yard.” He adjusted his collar, before adding, “We were protesting the soap.”

But because Thorne claimed that he has a spaceship, Cinder allowed him to come with her. Things got awfully easy until it turned out that his beloved spaceship run out of power, which meant that they have to fly manually.

“You do know how to fly, right?”
“Uh.” Thorne scanned the controls before him. “Yes?”

But with some luck and Iko, they sucessfully out in the space. And then what? Cinder had no idea. Going after Dr. Erland and accept her destiny as a Princess in such a short notice? She didn't think so. So she decided she had to seek some answers from someone who knew about her, someone who helped her escape and hiding for years, Michele Benoit.

So, that's it. Cinder's after some answers and Scarlet's after her grand-mere. I may not deliver this story as beautiful as Meyer but just trust me, It's good. The tension, the romance, the politics, it all mixed into one perfect harmony.

"I think I realized that I would rather die because I betrayed them, than live because I betrayed you."
